Rose Eva studied the history of art at the internationally renowned Courtauld Institute in London, and spent many years in the art world, both as a picture specialist for Phillips Auctioneers and as an art historian, writing on the subject.
When modelling animals in bronze, Rose is after the flash of movement, gone in an instant. She is fascinated by the human form and relationships, particularly, being a mother, that of the parent and child.
When carving, sometimes the stone itself, with its crevices and craggy form, inspires her, the extraneous material being peeled away to reveal the shape within. At other times, the perfect stone must be found to translate the idea into substance. Never, however, does she lose sight of the ancient substance of the stone itself, often leaving areas of the material untouched.
