Clive Meredith

Hampshire-based Clive Meredith has been a professional artist since 1993 and specialises in portrayals of nature from Britain and abroad.

Working in pencil, oils and mixed media each painting or drawing is created over many hours with meticulous attention to detail, aided by an extensive knowledge of the wildlife subjects and many hours spent in the field observing and recording them to achieve the stunning realism that I’m renowned for.

Travelling extensively in pursuit of new subject matter and experiences, it was during a trip to the Far East in 2016 that I was introduced to a master goldsmith working within the Thai royal palace in Bangkok creating, conserving and designing works for the Thai king. I spent some time learning gilding techniques with this artisan and was inspired to incorporate precious metal leaf into my wildlife art, developing my own unique approach to mixed media works. My goal in creating these pieces is to isolate the subject from its natural environment, presenting it instead in a contemporary style with a nod to age-old techniques and styles. Focussing on the beauty and complexity of the subject against a highly decorative background of distressed precious metal leaf and colour.

With many years spent working exclusively for a well-known British publishing house, over 80 of my works have been released as limited edition prints and both prints and original artworks have been exhibited widely at annual  events including the Royal Windsor horse show, Badminton horse trials, EWA, New Forest and Hampshire county show and The London International Horse show, Windsor Contemporary art fair, Reading Art fair and the Affordable Art fair Battersea to name but a few.

Works have made regular appearances in the DSWF Wildlife Artist of the Year competition at The Mall Galleries in London gaining a ‘highly commended’ award. I was also named Wildlife Artist of the Year 2010 by Wildscape magazine after winning the prestigious annual competition with the stunning drawing ‘The Egret Pool’.

Work has been featured in many publications including Wildscape magazine, Hampshire Life, Solent Life magazine and Artist’s and Illustrator’s magazine.
