LYNNE CARTLIDGE
Lynne is an oil painter whose painting process is based on observation – her subjects are often mundane everyday objects, in the still life tradition – but it is the play of the light and the use made of colour that is of primary interest.
She studied art at Falmouth Art College and then Cardiff Art College (Howard Gardens) where she attained a BA (Hons) Fine Art degree in 1987 when one of her figurative paintings was also selected for the Whitworth Young Contemporaries.
Lynne is currently settled in Cardiff where she has lived since 1984. Her current studio space was originally an Edwardian shop and has featured in Dr Who and the film Mr Nice.
Lynne has strong links with Cornwall which is where she grew up.
In 2014 she was awarded funding by the Arts Council of Wales for a project involving study with Cornish painter Alice Mumford at the St Ives School of Painting. She has also studied with Rose Hilton at the Newlyn School of Art and Hugo Grenville in Bristol.
Lynne was elected a member of the Royal Cambrian Academy of the Arts in 2017.
