Maria was born in Hampshire, England, UK.
“I like history and stories. My work focuses on highlighting differing circumstances, love affairs, identity, conversations, hopes and dreams. Even an empty room tells a story – the way the furniture has been placed or left; who was there and why. We are all animals and sometimes animals say it better than us perhaps that is why I feel akin to the works of both the late artist Paula Rego and comedian Dom Joly. We wait for love, fun, food and sex – sometimes it is forthcoming other times it is just like a wish or a pig flying past.”
