Louisa Burnett-Hall
Born 1965, Louisa Burnett-Hall spent her childhood in the chalk valleys of Hampshire, moving to Scotland to study Fine Art at Edinburgh. There she painted her first landscapes inspired by the rich colours and rolling hills of the lowlands. In 1990 she left the UK to paint in Paris. Her series of fish paintings began in the late 1990's, where she explores light, movement and the relationship of beings in and with their surrounding space.
Inspired by the natural world, I explore the symbiotic flux of relationships between elements and time, trying to identify my perception of existence, that is, the relationship between the self and one's surroundings

My main inspiration is movement in water. Fascinated by the weaving bands of light and colour in some photos I had taken of Japanese Koï carp, I began a series of fish paintings. In them I explore light, movement and the relationship of beings in and with their surrounding space. Invisible, water becomes visible through the light captured on its surface and in its depths. The abstract, fluid quality of line is used to depict movement and connections, solid and liquid forms are juxtaposed; contrasting spatial directions mingle.
I have frequently chosen a square composition because the eye bounces off the edges of the painting and is brought into a circular dynamic.
Light and line interpret a spiritual internet of links and energy in this vision of the natural world.
